LED Lighting uses less energy to use then traditional lighting reducing your energy demand. The more people reducing their energy use the less that will need to be produced. And this benefits our environment because almost all of our energy now comes from fossil fuels, mainly coal and oil. Not only is there a greater environments impact by using fossil fuels, but the byproducts of burning fossil fuels can damage the environment and harm animals including humans.
LED Lights last longer reducing waste going to the landfills. There is no mercury used in LED lights, or lead. And many China LED lighting manufacturers are using only parts that can be recycled. Up front LED lights are more expensive but over time they pay for themselves many time over lasting 6.2 times longer than fluorescent lights at about 1/2 the watts. Here are some effects traditional lighting you see in offices and stores today:
1 Billion fluorescent lamps are disposed of every year globally. That’s 50,000 pounds of mercury waste. It takes only 4 mg of mercury (one CFL) to poison 2,000 liters of water.
Most of the mercury we find in our food comes from industrial pollution
IF JUST 25% OF FLUORESCENT LIGHTING FIXTURES IN THE U.S. WERE CONVERTED TO LED’S WE COULD:
- Prevent the release of green house gasses equal to 10 million cars.
- Save 15 billion in electrical cost annually.
- Decommission 133 coal burning power plants.
- Reduce carbon emissions by 158 metric tons & avoid releasing 5,700 pounds of airborne mercury.
